SUMMARY

The VN Clinical Coordinator is an instructor (academic or clinical) appointment and has administrative academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program. This individual demonstrates competence in clinical education teaching and curriculum development. In addition, the VNCC’s primary responsibility is to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with the Director of Nursing and/or the Associate Director of Nursing. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Communicates between the Academic Institution and Affiliated Clinical EducationSites

• Clinical Education Program Planning, Implementation, and Assessment of students, preceptors, and clinical sites

• Clinical Site Development • Clinical Faculty and Preceptortraining

• Serve as clinical, simulation and lab faculty when coverage isnecessary

• Partner with course instructor and/or the simulation coordinator to map and implement virtual simulation in lieu of clinical experiences when necessary

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Scheduling/Coordination of student clinical and labhours

• Scheduling student at clinical sites and make up hours

• Weekly (as applies) verification that students have met their clinicalobjectives.

• Maintenance of documented monthly communications with all clinical affiliates, via a simple open newsletter or the like, to relay important clinical information, (i.e.: upcoming schedule changes, testing, documentation, etc.).

• Assist with pre-clinical classroom and other instructionassignments.

• Help to obtain new clinical affiliates as required by theprogram.

• Inventory, procure equipment, supplies, and assure readiness of the clinical laboratory. Report all broken, defective or needed equipment to Program Director and the Academic Dean immediately and suggest remedy.

• Document visits to all clinical sites on a regularly scheduled basis as approved by the Program Director.

• Attend all program graduation and pinning ceremonies.

• Process students’ physical examination, immunization reports and additional health forms required by clinical sites to assure compliance.

• Remain available in person, by phone or other methods of communication at any time a student is in clinic, to solve problems as they arise

• Assist the Director of Nursing and/or the Clinical Director and with any assignedprojects

• Conduct preceptor orientation at the start of each term and as deemednecessary

• Other duties as assigned 

Daily:

• Student Advisement

• Utilize CampusNexus to post comments on student advisement

• Verify that clinical instructors are at clinicalsites

• Monitor instructor assignments at each clinical site and daily attendancereporting

• Provide clinical site coverage as may be needed

Monthly:

• Verification that students have met appropriate clinicalobjectives

• Visit and document visits to clinical sites for purposes of auditing instructors, observing students and meeting with the Clinical Instructors, Preceptors and DepartmentDirectors

• Complete clinical compliance reports, i.e., assessments and action plans

• Assure weekly clinical evaluations of students’ performance are current and accurately documented

• Assure students’ clinical assignments are current and remain accountable for student clinical placements during clinical rotations

Quarterly:

• Quarterly goals and objectives to Director of Nursing and/or the ClinicalDirector

• Make site visits for preceptor training and keep “Preceptor Training Log”current

Ongoing:

• Assist in orientation of new students and admissionsreps

• Assist in training of all new clinicalfaculty

• Assist as needed with classroom instruction and preclinical lab and assigned assessment activities

• Accurately maintain the program clinical Injury Log with follow-up scheduledas appropriate

• Marketing visits for the purpose of obtaining new clinicalsites

• Maintain clinical site folders to include scheduling documents, student checkoffs, and hospital contracts

• Assure up-to-date list of clinical affiliates, clinical educators, and their inputactivities

• Attend two advisory board meetings a year

• Complete follow-up Action Reports on all identifiedproblems

• Keep all clinical event schedules current on each class. Maintain master clinical assignment board

• Turn in completed student clinical folders at the end of each clinicalterm

• Assess all clinical evaluation forms, attendance records, and gradereports

OTHER COMMENTS/REQUIREMENTS

• Able to demonstrate ability to:

   • Coordinate and schedule clinical placements for over 100 practical nursingstudents

   • Problem solves through critical thinking and clinical judgementskills

   • Demonstrate ability of organizational skills and time managementskills 

   • Show proficiency in computer applications includingMicrosoft™

   • Effectively communicate in writing and verbally

Job Requirements

Current, unencumbered, RN or VN license and privilege to practice nursing in the state ofTexas.

• If an employee only has an active VN license in the state of Texas, they may teach only Clinical Term 1 courses.

• If an employee has an active RN license in the state of Texas, they may teach all courses in the program.

• Must have one of the following: • Associates degree in nursing from an accredited nursing school to teach only Clinical Term 1 courses.

• Bachelors in nursing is strongly preferred to teach all courses in the program.

• Minimum 3 years’ clinical experience

• Must have been actively employed in nursing 2 of the last 3 years.

• If the instructor has not been actively employed in nursing in the past three years, the instructor’s advanced preparation in nursing, nursing education and nursing administration and prior relevant nursing employment may be taken into consideration in evaluating the qualifications for the position.

• Must also meet all regulatory and corporatequalifications.

• Must meet approval of regulatory board in order to hold position. • Teaching experience preferred.
